Anyone even remotely familiar with Star Wars will remember Yoda’s iconic quote “Do, or do not, there is no try.”
This powerful quote is often taken as gospel in the world of business, success, and personal development.
It’s been spoken countless times to warn against the pitfalls of a weak commitment, a shallow effort, or a laissez-fair attitude.
You either do it, or you don’t. End of story.
No doubt there’s a lot to be said for that level of commitment, but unfortunately it massively undervalues the effort of trying .
The True Value Of Trying
Trying is noble, courageous, and an important stepping stone on ones way to success.
Trying means understanding that there is a very real risk of failure, but you’re going to give it a shot anyways.
Trying should be rewarded and celebrated. After all, the number of people who are trying compared to those who don’t even bother is huge!
And the tryers , after enough trying, eventually become doers , and achievers , and havers , and completers .
But the first step on the way to success is trying, and nobody ever accomplished anything without trying it first.
There Power Of “Until”
The real value of trying comes when it’s combined with a commitment to try “until”
Trying alone is still important, but trying until is a proven and predictable recipe for success.
What are you going to try today?
