What’s In and Out of Our Control?
It’s up to each of us, at our own speed, to become aware of what’s in and out of our control. We can acknowledge that there’s a spectrum of opportunity and options that we can choose. Despite the fact that our current reality is filled with contradictions and can be confusing to navigate.
The path of freeing ourselves is one we actually get to uncover. Do you want to invite the path of more resistance into your life, or the path of least resistance? They are both challenging paths, and yet we have a choice when we start doing our own inner work.
As adventurers, humans have explored the moon, distant galaxies, faraway lands, and the depths of the oceans. We are curious about how things work and celebrate our technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs. But how curious are we about exploring ourselves?
Letting Go of Conflict
It is much more acceptable to go to war and annihilate other people in distant lands than it is to understand the source of our own suffering and destruction. We’ve been conditioned to look in the mirror and only observe our physical image reflecting back at us, wondering if we look presentable enough to the outside world.
Psychologist Carl Jung observed that, “People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls.” And, indeed, we are experts at strategizing against the enemies outside of us and mostly avoid facing the enemies looming within us. Our history shows us that it is much easier to blame and be victimized than honestly look within ourselves.
Doing our work requires us to pause, be still, question, and listen before responding and reacting. Becoming conscious—living in awareness—is key to healing our wounds. There’s always a feeling deep within us that’s calling us, but the question is whether we trust it or suppress it.
When a dam bursts, there’s a sudden and rapid release of captive water. The same thing can happen to us. When something is blocking our energy, removing it can free us from its hold. We have the power to break through—in fact, we are the only ones who can.
What’s In Our Control?
We’re each currently at our own crossroads; determining whether to take the known or the unknown path. Our mindset charts a large part of our path. Do we perceive a world of struggle or possibility, scarcity or abundance, fear or love, division or unity?
Our curiosity influences our willingness to cleanse, purify, and declutter our lives of what no longer serves us—beyond the material stuff. And rather, go inside ourselves to get in touch with our whole self.
True change begins when we’re able to envision something in a healthy light. It comes first from within us and the choices we make, which are only then reflected in our own outer world.
