“Ted” is a highly successful Soloist: generating consistent mid 6-figure revenue; appreciated by his clients and the buyers of his book; and highly respected by other consultants in his space.
But his business was starting to feel a little stale (he’d been at his profession for almost three decades), even before his industry suffered a post-inauguration blood bath.
He wasn’t likely to earn much beyond book royalties for the next year or two without a substantial pivot.
Or, he could position himself as a generous (unpaid) mentor as his clients navigated their way out of what looks like a long-term problem. And there was a part of him that liked how that would feel.
But.
He was ready for a work downshift. More time to travel, more time for his family, more time to indulge his favorite hobby.
The current situation became his catalyst to re-think his business and his life. To take stock and make changes to build his personal legacy and provide meaning in this next chapter.
Ted is a work in progress (which is good, since these things are best done thoughtfully over time, with an experimental mindset).
I’m sharing his story because—like Ted—now could be exactly the right time to re-calibrate how you live + work.
Opportunity often comes disguised as life-changing events dropped at your doorstep:
Your industry is decimated and your revenue tanks.
The thing you’ve dedicated yourself to is no longer relevant or attractive in the new world.
You’re just not motivated by the challenges of your people in the same way.
You can see fundamental challenges with your business model as AI matures.
You—or someone you love—has a serious health challenge.
The important thing if you’re feeling uncertain about your future is to ask yourself some deep questions.
It just may be your perfect opportunity for your next work + life pivot.
