Life often seems like a merry-go-round, throwing the same issues at us again and again. Sometimes it’s different people but the same life lessons. Trying to dodge them isn’t the point. It just invites stronger versions of the same situations or people showing up in our reality.
But there’s always a way when we go the root. Can we identify the recurring theme and let go of the urge to control the outcome?
Once we practice how we choose to respond, we break the cycle. We won’t need to go through more examples of the same experience. The energy that kept pulling us towards these situations disappears, breaking its hold over us. And as I learned the other day, some of it is not even ours but conditioning that no longer resonates with us. We are not responsible for how anyone chooses to react as that’s not on us.
It’s quite bizarre, isn’t it? We receive a text where someone accuses us of the strangest things, and we’re left scratching our heads, choosing not to get sucked into their drama.
This journey to understanding is like peeling an onion. We strip away layers of past habits that shaped our life. Each layer removed makes us feel lighter, freeing us from a limited view of reality. But sometimes, just as we think we broke free, it feels like we’re back at the start.
Creating A Healthier Trek
If you find yourself in a familiar situation, don’t lose heart. You may have already learned this lesson and broken free from old habits. The key is, you are not the same person who started this journey.
As we go through life, we change. We become healthier versions of ourselves when we do our inner work. As we move towards a wider view of our lives, we bring together different parts of ourselves. In simple words, the ‘you’ that you see yourself as is always changing, becoming a healthier version who can laugh more and enjoy the merry-go-round rides or simply choose another ride and even walk.
Each of us embarks on a unique journey. No two paths are identical. When we encounter old issues, it’s a sign of our continuous growth. We’re merging diverse aspects of ourselves, aiming for a balanced and complete self. Living like Teflon, nothing sticks to us, becomes our way of life.
And John Lennon, no longer playing the programmed game, sings with us, “No longer riding on the merry-go-round, I just had to let it go.”
