"Growth comes from chaos, not order." - Rakesh Jhunjhunwala
In this season of yearly expectations and ideals it can often feel we are living in chaos both personal and globally. The uncertainty of the future haunts our thinking, and as we face the myth that says we must have security in order to feel safe, we are challenged to find the answers that will provide us with that place of ease.
Chaos was what I knew from my earliest days, and in due course learned why chaos is important.
- Out of chaos comes creativity.
- Out of chaos comes form and order.
- Out of chaos comes the ability to do good.
- Out of chaos comes the ability to develop the person you really want to be.
- Out of chaos create a new order to live authentically.
It takes courage to confront the chaos and make the changes you need to live your best life.
The simple truth is we return to chaos again and again because we are constantly regenerating. We are redefining. We are reinventing. And with each time of making a 're' moment we are dipping back into chaos and dealing with uncertainty in order to create something new. If we are not comfortable doing this, we stagnate.
It is the myth of the dance of Shiva in Hindu mythology. Out of destruction comes the opportunity to rejuvenate and create new possibilities.
There are many myths we live by. We must have a good job. We must have a good relationship. We must be good parents. We must not upset others. We must take care of our elderly parents. And much more.
There are many ‘musts’ in our world, and most of them are assumption based.
We build assumptions on how we must behave in certain circumstances at work, in our religious environments, in our homes with our children and significant others.
Blowing up these myths means descending into chaos. It breaks the rules. It creates an environment of confusion and reactions that can only be called defensive, blaming, or avoiding.
Looking for answers is not the first place to go.
Finding the right questions becomes more important and through the questions we will find the answers.
- Do you worry about the future?
- Are you playing it safe because it keeps you out of chaos?
- Do you concern yourself with other people’s expectations instead of following your own path?
- What would it look like if you were to take more risks? Would your life be different?
You bet it would!
We spend our lives in search of who we really are, and frequently struggle with the illusions and myths that dominate our thinking.
These are the stories we tell ourselves that may not be true, and which hold us back from fully expressing our thoughts and making changes that make a difference to the quality of our lives.
The greatest human desire is to reveal the essence of who we are, who we are capable of being, and living a life that feels authentic and true.
To master our emotions, change our thinking and understand the behaviors that don’t serve our best interests is the journey we all take as human beings.
Fear matters to your success because it’s a driver for growth. When you confront your fears it gives you the opportunity to examine your life. To trust that whatever happens you can handle it.
This is the promise of being fearless. Not the absence of fear but the courage to take the next step and confront the possibilities.
As you start your new year consider:
- What will be your greatest accomplishment this time next year?
- What breakthroughs did you have?
- How will you make a difference in your life in 2023, and who will it impact?
You always have a choice. Confront the chaos and create the life you want to live.
Wishing you great success in the year to come.
