Which Generation is Quietly Taking Center Stage?

From Beavis and Butthead to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Gen X has been the generation quietly taking center stage…without anyone noticing.

Even though we are currently outnumbered by generations on either side, we have enormous influence on culture, brands and product consumption.

We just don’t take credit for it.

The arrival of Gen X on center stage raises the question: What is next for this generation of independent, diligent workers with enormous family and work responsibilities?

Gen X makes up…

  • 42% of Oscar best actor and supporting actor winners in the past three years
  • 40% of the highest earning news anchors in the U.S.
  • 39% of 18 potential presidential candidates for 2016
  • And funny people: we’ve got Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon!
  • Yet, less than half of Gen Xers (49%) say their generation is unique (compared to 61% of Millennials and 58% of Boomers who say theirs is).*

With our sense of humor developed and refined through Saturday Night Live and South Park and with our stewardship of the shift in media consumption from the newspaper to Jon Stewart and the Huffington Post, we surely have opinions.

We just need to own them.
