There are always a couple family members who are tricky to buy for during the Holidays and so I tend to turn to purchasing gift cards when I fall into an inspiration funk!
Gift cards can be the perfect gift for someone who has everything, especially if you package it up in a clever, thoughtful way.
We’ve come up with five ways to beautifully package a gift card this Holiday season that are so much more fun that a plain old envelope. I picked up a gift card at my local Fred Meyer. The options are endless there, but we chose this gift card for eBay. We also bought all the materials shown here at Fred Meyer, which offered everything we needed from tissue paper to gift bags, ribbon to cute glitter gift boxes – perfect!
With a little imagination you can create beautiful gift card holders like the pretty votive candle with a handmade tissue poinsettia paper flower resting on top. The pattern and tutorial for this simple gift topper can be found below. There are lots of gorgeous candles in various sizes available in Fred Meyer. Choose your fave, pop the gift card into the side of the candle container then sit your handmade tissue paper flower on top – perfect!
We also made a pretty gold paper bow with the added touch of holly and leaves to top this glittery store bought gift box. This is a simple way to use your ribbon to add the personal touch and you can download our pattern for the holly below.
Another great way to package gift cards is to purchase a cute mug – Fred Meyer has lots of seasonal kitchenware in store at the moment. Our fave was this dainty reindeer design – so cute! We simply wrapped up a package of hot cocoa, added a pretty star made from ribbon and tucked the little package along with the gift card into the mug.
We also got creative with gift tags. These paper snowmen gift tags have folding arms, which can be wrapped around a gift card perfectly and secured with a little dot of glue! We wrapped the card in a little tissue to add an extra element of surprise.
How about embellishing a simple gift card bag with tissue berries and holly leaves made from gold ribbon? Everyone loves a personalized gift so we added a simple monogram to the stocking gift bag, which we cut from the same gold ribbon that we used to make the holly leaves – such fun!
All of our packaging ideas were created using items bought in our local Fred Meyer store (including the gift card!) and are simple for you to re-create at home! Better still, Kroger stores sell gift cards for a number of restaurants and retailers, so you can choose an appropriate gift card for the recipient. Giving a gift card could be the most thoughtful and creative gift you give this Holiday season! Let your imagination soar and have fun! Happy making and have a very Happy Holiday! ~ Lia
