Most advisors do not have an investment philosophy or if they have one they don’t know how to articulate their philosophy.
If we eliminated the words diversification and asset allocation how would you articulate your investment philosophy?
If you are like most advisors you will struggle with this and are still using technical industry terms that most people don’t even understand!
I want you to embrace a whole new approach to communicating with clients, sharing your investment philosophy in a way they can easily grasp and embrace.
As a former advisor I focused on women, using technical terms and industry methods when talking about investing these women’s eyes would glaze over, they did not understand what I was talking about so I had to find a better way .
I started by using cliches that reflected my style of investing and the minute I did the light bulb would go on, the women would sit forward and they were all in. This simple shift changed everything and made it easier to get their commitment to moving forward.
Here is an Example of an Investment Philosophy that Inspires Women
When speaking with a potential client I would share this:
It’s important you understand my philosophy towards investing money and it can really be summed up in three cliches..
- I’d rather be the tortoise than the hare – I don’t view this as a race but a steady approach to reaching our destination and your retirement goals.
- All that glitters is not gold – It’s important that we invest in vehicles that have proven performance not the latest and greatest products that have not been tested.
- A penny saved is a penny earned – Our first and most important priority is to ensure your money and your financial future is protected. Delicately balancing the risk reward is essential to your success.
When you can identify and then articulate your philosophy (the why behind what you do) using well known (not made up) cliches the listener will immediately grasp the message and be able to move forward faster. This method serves both you AND your new client better!
