What Business Are You In?
For this episode, I’d like to start off with what sounds like a very simple question but has a profound effect on how you handle your business moving forward: What business are you in? For most of you, you would likely mention what’s written on your job description or LinkedIn profile. But these are just labels.
Why don’t we dig in deeper? What is it that you do for clients? And more importantly, if I were looking for someone to hire from your industry, why should I choose you? Most advisors find it difficult to answer those questions. One of the reasons for that is because most operate on the scarcity/survival mindset. As much as possible, these people try to offer themselves to a broader clientele because they are too afraid to shut down an opportunity.
As the saying goes, “When you try to speak to everyone, you speak to no one”. Advisors should know who they want to serve in order to become the best at serving them.
