Today’s work ethic translates into a much broader definition than how many hours you are working. Today the proper work ethicsconsists of the following:
Value: Can you and the people around you confirm the value you are delivering?
Results: Your actions are connected to the achievement of agree upon goals, objectives and OKRs.
Loyalty: Every decision that is made puts the betterment of the company first.
Forward thinking: Going into the future and finding challenges and opportunities that only they can see. Then bringing them back to the present with ideas, recommendations and actions that can be shared with upper management.
Personal Growth: Persistent commitment to becoming a more capable employee. Adding and changing behaviors and skill sets. It’s done with humility and backed by purpose.
Role Model: As a role model, their proactive approach shines throughout their entire body of work, setting a commendable example for all to witness.
Cultural Ambassador: The total workplace is where they want to be. Excitement and fun are brought on by the constant challenges that test one’s inner mental toughness. Income is important but collaboration with other like-minded individuals is the daily drive.
Work ethics permeate every facet of a company, much like honesty – it’s a trait one either possesses or doesn’t, making it impossible to instill through instruction. My advice to those who don’t have it – Immediately understand you are putting yourself in harms way. Today and the future of all successful companiesare going to make work ethics a crucial factor of its employees. The great news is the proposed work ethic is always available for everyone. All you have to do is want it and focus on the topics I have listed above.
Lastly, for all the workaholics reading this – being a workaholicis not equal to having a proper work ethic. Remember it’s not the hours you put in that counts, it’s the results you’re achieving by modeling a leadership style that allows individuals to see how great they are. You’re unlocking the talents of others, fostering their self-confidence and ensuring the security of their family’s future. It’s all so simple by taking care of the moment you will take care of your life.
